Event Details
HEY THERE!
We have closed registration for Children's Advocacy Days 2012!
The only reason we have closed registration is because we had to have a hard close date in order to be certain we had all of your nametags printed.
HOWEVER,
If you are reading this message and just didn't register in time - NO WORRIES AT ALL!
COME ON! JOIN US!
We promise we will not turn you away at the door! :-)
We will just ask you to register onsite and wait a few minutes so that we can print you a nametag there!
THANKS AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ON TUESDAY!

For infants and very young children, every minute is an adventure as they explore the unknown territory of the world.
Child advocates seek to create a world in which children don’t lose wonder and the belief that something good is awaiting discovery.
As important as it is to preserve the sense of adventure in children, it is equally important that child advocates retain the imagination to conceive solutions for our communities and the courage to enact them.
“Adventures in Advocacy” is the theme of the 2012 Children’s Advocacy Days.

Tennessee Commission on Children & Youth
TCCY's Vision. All children in Tennessee have the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential and are safe, healthy, nurtured and educated.
TCCY's Mission. The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth (TCCY) is an independent state agency with a primary mission of advocacy for improving the quality of life for Tennessee children and families.
The policy-making body of TCCY is a 26-member commission whose members are appointed by the governor. At least one member is appointed from each of Tennessee's nine development districts. Five youth advisory members meet the federally mandated composition required for a Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act state advisory group.
TCCY works with state agencies, juvenile courts, child advocacy groups, interested citizens and other organizations to improve services to children. The commission members, central office staff and regional coordinators are engaged in the following activities:
- Improving the coordination of services for children;
- Collecting and disseminating statistical and programmatic information;
- Informing citizens and organizations of children’s issues;
- Tracking legislation and making recommendations to the Governor and Legislature;
- Evaluating the delivery of services to children in state custody and their families through the Children’s Program Outcome Review Team quality service review process; and
- Administering the Federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act, the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant and other federal and state grant funds for juvenile justice programs.

Have you ever wondered why we do not start day one until 10:30 a.m. and then break at 11:30 for a one and half hour lunch? You are not alone and we will share our rationale.
Tennessee is a LONG state and we have participants driving in from everywhere to participate in the first day. We are mindful of this drive time and want to allow ...particpants ample time to arrive in Nashville safe and sound.
Children’s Advocacy Days is many things to many people. A party – yes. A conference – yes. An opportunity to learn new information – yes. A networking opportunity – yes. However, the heart and soul of Children’s Advocacy Days is Legislative Advocacy. We want participants to visit with their legislators and share information about issues affecting children, youth and families. Therefore, we build into the agenda a longer lunch break in order for participants to have more time for meetings with legislators.
Therefore, TIP # 4 – Maximize the use of the long lunch break to visit with your legislators and their staff.
We will once again partner with Calypso Café (http://www.calypsocafe.com/home.htm) to provide a healthy, nutritious, and all you care to eat lunch to all CAD participants. As always, and thanks to the support of Tennessee Juvenile Court Services Association, lunch is completely FREE!
Please check out Calypso’s website to learn more about their food. This website will also provide information for those of you who may have certain food allergies.
If you would like to make other arrangements for lunch, please visit the Nashville Downtown Partnership’s website (http://www.nashvilledowntown.com/play/dining) to learn more about on-your-own lunch opportunities within close proximity to War Memorial Auditorium.
Children’s Advocacy Days 2012 – TIP # 2 PARKING
We realize parking in downtown Nashville is challenging on the best of days. Mix in all of the activities and happenings with the Legislature and our 700+ CAD participants and parking can become even MORE frustrating!
We want you to arrive at Children’s Advocacy Days calm, relaxed and ready to do great work, not frazzled and flustered from trying to find a place to park!
Registration will be open from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with the first speaker starting at 10:30. If possible, consider carpooling with other participants or co-workers.
Please visit http://www.tpac.org/visiting/directions.asp to learn more about parking options around War Memorial Auditorium before you venture into downtown.
TIPS TO ENSURE CAD2012 IS THE BEST EVER!
Children's Advocacy Days 2012 is fast approaching! In the days leading up to CAD, we are going to start sharing updates and tips which will ensure you have the BEST experience EVER at Children's Advocacy Days 2012!
We promise we have re-read every CAD evaluation comment for the past 5 events.
The top 2 suggestions for improvement are.... #1 War Memorial Auditorium is FREEZING - Turn up the Heat and #2 War Memorial Auditorium is an OVEN - Turn up the Air. :-)
TIP # 1 - War Memorial Auditorium is a HUGE space! As much as we want to make everyone comfortable with the temperature, it is a little outside of our control. So, dress in layers and bring a jacket. :-)
JUST LOVE COFFEE ROASTERS CONFIRMED TO PROVIDE COFFEE TO CAD2012 PARTICIPANTS!
The Mission of Just Love Coffee
At Just Love Coffee Roasters, our mission is to bring out the unique qualities inherent in each coffee bean. We do this by taking a small-batch artisan approach to all of our specialty coffees. We don’t use automation or computers during the roast process, but instead carefully roast every batch to perfection using smell, sight, sound, touch, and taste. We’re always searching for the best Fair Trade, organic, and shade-grown coffee beans available.
And as passionate as we are about creating outstanding artisan coffees, we are equally passionate about helping those in need. Every delectable cup of Just Love Coffee you drink has a portion of its proceeds go to someone who could use a helping hand.
